Walking down Fifth street I can’t stop looking up at all the buildings, it doesn’t matter that everytime I crane my neck upward my face is greeted with raindrops falling. I can’t stop looking in every direction.
Upon our arrival, the crew and I dropped off our luggage in our rooms. We weren’t interested in getting acquainted with the hotel because we where ready to go out…see and do. First stop; Time Square. Time Square is a sensory overload, full of fellow tourist gawking at everything. Yet the images of the advertisements are crisp and bright. The beautiful technological creations made by man are something not easily described over text and although I have seen countless images of the buildings and the crowds, being amidst it all is an emotion so satisfying. While standing under the vibrant lights, one can easily hear 100 different conversations of people from every corner of the world, the smell of NY hot dogs enters the nose; and if you listen really closely, there is this sort of hum in the middle of the square from all the lighted ads. It’s breathtaking to be in the center of so much happening and take it all in. It makes you appreciate all that we are capable of as man. Everything is beautiful.
Waking up this morning was comforting, there was an instant gratifying aesthetic of others people. The sound of cars beeping, a quiet hum, the soft chatter of people beginning their day. Personally, I love a scene with people. I love the noise, the business, the sound the streets carries. There is this sort of music behind it all. It’s no irony that Rhapsody of Blue has been on constant repeat in my head. I’m sure it’s because of growing up and watching Disney’s animation of the composition. I now get to come face to face with these images in real life. Up close and personal and as they play out in front of me, I’m eager to be part of a lifestyle so grand. Although I’ve been a proud southerner all my life, New York is happening place that I could easily picture myself in. I’ve only spent a day in this city and I’ve been impacted and admire New Yorkers and their impeccable sense of fashion, their proudness and how they’re on a constant destination. As I walk through the streets, I aspire to be a part of the city that never sleeps.
